  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 medium onions (diced)
  • 34 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (28-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans red kidney beans (drained)
  • 2 cups broth (beef or chicken)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook 2 pounds of ground beef until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, sauté 2 diced onions until soft. Add seasoning: salt, cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, and sugar; mix well.
  3. Stir in 3-4 tablespoons of tomato paste followed by 1 can each of diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Return the cooked ground beef to the pot along with 2 cans of drained kidney beans and add 2 cups of broth. Stir well.
  5. Let the chili simmer for about 15-20 minutes before serving.
