Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 cup kimchi
  • 1 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes until combined.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Place flank steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour marinade over it. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 4 hours).
  3. Cook the Rice: Rinse uncooked rice until water runs clear. Cook according to package instructions.
  4. Cook the Steak: Preheat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove steak from marinade and discard excess marinade. Cook steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare.
  5. Rest and Slice: Let the cooked steak rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  6. Assemble Bowls: In each bowl, layer cooked rice followed by sliced steak, kimchi, fresh vegetables, green onions, and sesame seeds.
