  • 34 lb beef brisket
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional for heat)
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your slow cooker or prepare a roasting pan.
  2. Rub the beef brisket with olive oil and season it with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and optional chili powder.
  3. (Optional) Sear the brisket in a hot skillet until browned on all sides.
  4. Place the seasoned brisket in your slow cooker or roasting pan along with sliced onions and minced garlic.
  5. Pour in beef broth and barbecue sauce; stir gently to combine.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours until tender.
  7. For caramelization, remove brisket from liquid. In a separate pan, melt butter, add brown sugar until bubbly, then mix with reserved cooking liquid.
  8. Shred the brisket with two forks and toss back into the caramelized sauce before serving.
